Portland is the largest city in Oregon. As of 2005, its population was estimated as 556,370, and a further 2 million or so people lived in the surrounding metropolitan area.

Oregon has multiple volcanoes over 10,000 feet and outstanding skiing. It is home to over a dozen ski resorts including Mt. Bachelor, which is a beautiful strata volcano.

The view of Mount Hood, Oregon’s tallest mountain, from the Timberline Lodge is inspiring. Its most famous volcano imploded thousands of years ago, creating Crater Lake, one of the world’s most beautiful and deepest lakes. Crater Lake National Park is a destination that deservedly attracts visitors from all over the world.

If you enjoy fishing, rafting, or just taking in outstanding scenery Oregon is home to such great rivers as the Umpqua, the Willamette, the Deschutes, the Snake, the John Day, the Crooked, and of course, the Columbia, one of the world’s largest rivers.

The Columbia Gorge, which bisects the Cascade Range and forms the border between Oregon and Washington, has beautiful waterfalls, vistas, and wind surfing. HellsCanyon, which is in northeast Oregon and separates Oregon from Idaho, is the deepest canyon in North America, deeper than even the Grand Canyon.

Eastern Oregon is much drier than the western side of the state but is still home to great destinations such as the Wallowa Mountains, Smith Rock State Park, and the Painted Hills – John Day Fossil Beds National Monument.

For most people, work and school schedules often help determine when they can take an Oregon vacation. Those with kids typically have to wait for the summer months if they want to visit for more than a few days.

For most this works out great because Oregon weather is at its warmest, and it is the peak of the travel season so all the Oregon campgrounds and attractions are open.

Reservations are recommended during the summer months as many of the most popular campgrounds tend to fill up fast.

Many festivals are held in the summer, wild and cultivated flowers are in bloom, and there is even a resident group of whales along the coast for those that want to experience Oregon’s legendary whale watching.

Whale watching is at its peak in March, making spring an ideal time to visit Oregon, especially the coastal area. Snowmelt also increases the water levels in rivers, creating churning rapids just waiting to be kayaked or rafted.

Autumn is a good time to visit if you plan to fish Oregon coastal rivers and streams. Steelhead and salmon enter these waters to spawn beginning in September and continuing into late fall.

Fall is also a good time to visit one of Oregon’s vineyards. The Willamette Valley, slightly inland from Oregon’s northwest coast, is known as wine country, and there are numerous wineries that offer tours and tastings.

In addition to fishing and wine tasting, the fall foliage is in full color and the Oregon camping sites are typically less crowded than in summer months.

Winter is the perfect time to visit Oregon if you like skiing, snowboarding, and other snow activities. In the winter months, average inland daytime temperatures are often in the 40s.

A second whale migration in December through January makes a winter trip to the Oregon coast appealing as well. The ocean climate helps keep temperatures relatively mild, and winter camping in Oregon can be cozy and comfortable with proper clothing and camping equipment.

Many of the state park campgrounds remain open year round although running water may not be available. Fewer families come to Oregon in the winter months, so if you like quiet getaways, this may be the best time to visit Oregon.

Oregon has a reputation for having some of the best fishing in the country. Fishing in Oregon is great for groups of adults, but if you have a young family, you can still take advantage of Oregon’s beautiful scenery and enjoy fishing together. Fishing in Oregon is a great way to extricate yourselves from the business and over stimulation typical of everyday life and immerse yourself in the quiet of nature with loved ones. An inexpensive pastime, fishing is a wonderful family activity that you and your family will remember as treasured moments together. It’s a great day trip option and can also become a family tradition.

Various Kinds of Fishing in Oregon

Fishing in Oregon is a possibility basically wherever there is a body of water. Rivers, estuaries, streams, and lakes, all of which are plentiful in Oregon, house an impressive range of fish species including salmon, many types of trout, sturgeon, bass, shad, and crappie. The Sandy and Columbia Rivers are among the most popular places to fish for salmon and steelhead. The Rogue River, Coquille River, and Coos River offer some of the finest salmon fishing in Oregon. The McKenzie River and Tillamook Bay are also Oregon fishing hotspots. Sturgeon, another sought-after variety of fish, also available in Oregon rivers as well as Oregon bays and the Pacific Ocean. Oregon fly fishing, specifically trout fly fishing, and salt water fishing are other possibilities when it comes to fishing in Oregon.

Ways to Go Fishing in Oregon

Various boats are another way that fishing in Oregon varies. For instance, you can fish from a powerboat or you can go on a trip involving drift fishing or back trolling. In addition to researching and navigating your own fishing trips in Oregon, you can also consider hiring a guide. Often these guides enable hassle-free experiences of fishing in Oregon, especially for those who may be a little less experienced. For instance, they often include gear such as fishing flies, tackle, and bait as well as rain gear.

Things to Keep in Mind When Fishing in Oregon

Make sure to make arrangements for fishing licenses when you are planning to go fishing in Oregon. Resident and non-resident day licenses are necessary for those age fifteen and older. Fishing in Oregon, of any variety, requires a license, so make sure not to overlook this important step before you enjoy the sport, experience of nature, and world-class fish that go along with fishing in Oregon.

There are certain camping parks which are either maintained by the state or even by the private companies. If you can really spend a vacation in one of those parks then surely you will enjoy yourself to the fullest extent. You can even spend a romantic trip on the beaches of Oregon. For this you just need to walk to the southern portion of the beach.

There was not only one time when we’ve tried to get the bank to loan us some money for really small lots in Oregon which were destined for big animals. The bank demanded us to pay down 50% of the value of the land as down payment when we found land for sale in Oregon that we could actually afford and this would have happened only if we got accepted for the loan. But as my husband was surfing the Internet one day, he found a deal which was really incredible. Some guy called Michael Long from Portland in Oregon was dealing with really small undeveloped parcels of land in the south of Oregon. He was selling the cheap land for just $12,000 and he was functioning as his own personal bank which means that we got the loan from him. He was demanding for a down payment of course but only of $500 and he only asked for $150 every month for the land.

We later found out the land he was selling was residential and that we could build a house on it. Also, the land permitted you to raise any kind of large animals. My dream of having my own horse ranch was becoming real. This guy has about 30 lots of land from which you can choose. He told us that some people didn’t know how the land looked like when they bought it and if they didn’t like it in the end he could put the money they had given him in a more desirable parcel of land.

Oregon is famous for its beautiful coast. Comprised of stretches of white beaches and rocky shorelines, the coast is one of the most picaresque in the world. It’s dotted with charming towns such as Astoria and Cannon Beach that are visited by tourists throughout the year, even during the rainy winter season. There’s a lot to see and do on the coast from sampling seafood to taking photographs of the monolithic Haystack Rock, from whale-watching to exploring tide pools. You can even visit the phenomenal Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport if you want to get up close and personal with some of the ocean’s denizens. Or you could just watch the waves roll in. Either way, the coast is worth exploring.

Portland is Oregon’s largest city both in terms of population and area. The entire metro region includes smaller towns and cities including Beaverton, Gresham, and Vancouver, Washington. (Washington is just across the Columbia River.) Portland is famous for its strikingly beautiful rose gardens, the tasty offerings of its many restaurants, and Powell’s, a bookstore that takes up an entire city block. The city is within about an hour’s drive from many scenic wonders including the coast, Mt. Hood, the Columbia River Gorge, and Mt. St. Helen’s. If you do visit Portland, just remember to take an umbrella. It tends to rain a lot there, especially in the winter.

Hood River quaint town is about an hour away from Portland and is located in the heart of the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. It offers great shopping and fine dining, as well as wind-surfing for more adventurous types. And if you travel a bit south of the town, you’ll discover the Hood River Fruit Loop. The Fruit Loop is a group of farms that produce high-quality produce including berries, pumpkins, and other seasonal favorites that you can purchase on-site. The Fruit Loop is incredibly scenic and is dotted with colorful flowers in the spring and summer. It’s well worth a visit if you crave fresh fruit and a lovely view.

If you love the outdoors, Bend is a great destination. This small city is surrounded by dormant and extinct volcanoes and miles of trees, and it’s right next to the Deschutes River. Hiking, mountain climbing, fishing, biking, and skiing are just some of the activities you can do near Bend, along with more urban pleasures such as shopping and dining. Bend is also a great place to go if you just want to read a book, take pictures, and enjoy the beauty of nature. This is a place that can be enjoyed year-round, so be sure to check it out.

At McNary High School in Keizer, Oregon, a gym teacher found a hand gun with ammunition in a backpack in the lost and found. They didn’t find who owned the backpack and never knew its intent of being there. At Banks High School in North Plains, Oregon, a student threatened his ex-girlfriend with a gun over the phone and brought a gun to school the next day. Thankfully she had told school officials about the threat when she came to school and they found the gun in his backpack along with five rounds of ammunition.

Because of the 1999 Columbine shooting, schools have been adding metal detectors at the entrance of schools to prevent students from bringing weapons on school campuses. This to some people is looked at as a lazy way to make schools safe. Some think that schools should focus more on teaching kids the dangers of weapons and creating healthy, happy learning environments for the children so they don’t feel the need to act out in anger with weapons. As this argument seems dandy and in a perfect world, schools would be like that, but this is reality.

The reality of kids bringing weapons to schools is real. Regardless of schools teaching, a student could act out at anytime and by having a simple metal detector to further protect your children seems like a fair solution. It certainly doesn’t do any harm. Of course there are other ways violence can happen that don’t involve metal and of course not everything can be prevented, but doesn’t it seem that by having a metal detector your kids can potentially be safer?

If every school had a zero tolerance for violence policy AND a metal detector, parents could be at ease dropping their kids off at school knowing that the school they chose for their son/daughter to get the best start for their education is indeed safe. If you had a choice between two schools that gave the same academic teachings, were located in the same area, both had zero tolerance for violence policy’s and one had a metal detector, which would you choose? If just one serious act of violence could be prevented, that gives the metal detectors a lot of value.

Other states have a lot of oversight, laws, and/or regulations. To confuse matters even more, nearly every state is in the process of creating, changing, or adding to the requirements. It’s a bit hard to keep track of, honestly.

The Oregon Mortgage Rescue Protection Act, passed last year, restricts the loan modification process in Oregon somewhat, requiring additional disclosure, which implies, but does not explicitly state, that only mortgage brokers and attorneys can do loan modifications. If there are other statues covering loan mods within Oregon, you was unable to find them. You may want to try calling the Oregon Real Estate Commission for more detailed and up-to-date info. The Commission for any state usually knows, and they’re often the regulatory body too. Another resource is to call the Oregon Mortgage Broker Commission, as the mortgage broker commission for any given state can also often be the regulatory body for loan mods. They should be able to provide accurate and detailed info regarding loan mod laws, oversight, and licensing as well.
