Great Places to Visit in Oregon

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

Oregon is famous for its beautiful coast. Comprised of stretches of white beaches and rocky shorelines, the coast is one of the most picaresque in the world. It’s dotted with charming towns such as Astoria and Cannon Beach that are visited by tourists throughout the year, even during the rainy winter season. There’s a lot to see and do on the coast from sampling seafood to taking photographs of the monolithic Haystack Rock, from whale-watching to exploring tide pools. You can even visit the phenomenal Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport if you want to get up close and personal with some of the ocean’s denizens. Or you could just watch the waves roll in. Either way, the coast is worth exploring.

Portland is Oregon’s largest city both in terms of population and area. The entire metro region includes smaller towns and cities including Beaverton, Gresham, and Vancouver, Washington. (Washington is just across the Columbia River.) Portland is famous for its strikingly beautiful rose gardens, the tasty offerings of its many restaurants, and Powell’s, a bookstore that takes up an entire city block. The city is within about an hour’s drive from many scenic wonders including the coast, Mt. Hood, the Columbia River Gorge, and Mt. St. Helen’s. If you do visit Portland, just remember to take an umbrella. It tends to rain a lot there, especially in the winter.

Hood River quaint town is about an hour away from Portland and is located in the heart of the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. It offers great shopping and fine dining, as well as wind-surfing for more adventurous types. And if you travel a bit south of the town, you’ll discover the Hood River Fruit Loop. The Fruit Loop is a group of farms that produce high-quality produce including berries, pumpkins, and other seasonal favorites that you can purchase on-site. The Fruit Loop is incredibly scenic and is dotted with colorful flowers in the spring and summer. It’s well worth a visit if you crave fresh fruit and a lovely view.

If you love the outdoors, Bend is a great destination. This small city is surrounded by dormant and extinct volcanoes and miles of trees, and it’s right next to the Deschutes River. Hiking, mountain climbing, fishing, biking, and skiing are just some of the activities you can do near Bend, along with more urban pleasures such as shopping and dining. Bend is also a great place to go if you just want to read a book, take pictures, and enjoy the beauty of nature. This is a place that can be enjoyed year-round, so be sure to check it out.

Oregon Loan Modification Laws

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

Every state has different rules and regulations regarding who can do loan modifications and what licensing, if any, is required. Many states don’t have any restrictions whatsoever, though they’ll probably come up with something to regulate the industry in the next year or two. Other states have a lot of oversight, laws, and/or regulations. To confuse matters even more, nearly every state is in the process of creating, changing, or adding to the requirements. It’s a bit hard to keep track of, honestly.

The Oregon Mortgage Rescue Protection Act, passed last year, restricts the loan modification process in Oregon somewhat, requiring additional disclosure, which implies, but does not explicitly state, that only mortgage brokers and attorneys can do loan modifications. If there are other statues covering loan mods within Oregon, you was unable to find them. You may want to try calling the Oregon Real Estate Commission for more detailed and up-to-date info. The Commission for any state usually knows, and they’re often the regulatory body too. Another resource is to call the Oregon Mortgage Broker Commission, as the mortgage broker commission for any given state can also often be the regulatory body for loan mods. They should be able to provide accurate and detailed info regarding loan mod laws, oversight, and licensing as well.
